Printable guns one step closer

3-D printable weapons are in the news again, as Defense Distributed showed its new printed receiver that stood up to hundreds of rounds of full-power ammunition. That’s a huge leap from the half a dozen .22s they could handle a year ago.

To date this project has focused on the lower receiver because that’s the legally regulated part in the USA – the other parts can be bought much more freely. But that’s a local legal issue, not a technical one. Herald of War wonders if there’s anything to prevent the rest of a weapon being printed in the same way, and how long before that is done.

And tyrants everywhere sleep less easily tonight…
