ASPI has announced the first Australia-Africa senior leaders dialogue forum, in conjunction with South Africa’s Brenthurst Foundation. Herald of War finds the timing interesting. Our American friends are just ramping up their African campaign against Al-Qa’eda. (At least, the recent clear hints by the new Commander, AFRICOM and the deployment of increased numbers of advisors to many African countries make it look that way.) And now Australia is ready to look across the Indian Ocean to find friends.
This might be about Australian mining companies with African projects, and it might be a little bit to do with providing an alternative to the Chinese influence now sweeping the continent. And it might also have a lot to do with the next campaign in the War on Terror.
