A statement purporting to be from PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan (from prison) to those celebrating the Kurdish New Year has ordered PKK forces in Turkey to cease fire and withdraw from the country.
Herald of War imagines the Turkish authorities were only too glad to pass on such a message, whether it originated with Ocalan or not.
Of course, the only place for the PKK to withdraw to is northern Iraq, which is about as sold on a Kurdish homeland as Turkey is. Have the Turks succeeded in exporting their portion of the shared insurgent problem to the neighbours? We watch with interest.
